election / Washington State Primary Election

An election is an event where voters pick a person (candidate) to represent them in government.  For example, voters elect a president.

Washington State had a primary election on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

 

the press / free press / independent press

 

The press are the companies that report and publish news. They are new outlets.

EXAMPLE: The Seattle Times, CNN and BBC are examples of the press.

 

A free press or independent press is not controlled by government. It can report the news it sees and investigates.

 

opinion

Opinion is something you believe is true. A person can agree or disagree with you.

EXAMPLE: My opinion is that every American citizen should vote in the election.

 

opinion news

Opinion news is what someone thinks about a news event.

EXAMPLE: My opinion is that the COVID-19 vaccination is saving peoples’ lives.
